About Us
True to our motto, “Progressiveness in the Community,” Union Springs Telephone Company has been fortunate to be a part of the development and enrichment of Bullock County and surrounding communities.
We are proud to provide 900 square miles of service to Bullock, Pike, Barbour and Macon counties...an area roughly equivalent to the size of Rhode Island.
In our earliest days, phones were cranked and the operator might tell you where your calling party was rather than connect you to someone not at home. We started with only 325 customers and no telephone directory.
In 1955, the magneto wall crank telephones were replaced with dial phones for 1,200 customers. We also boasted four outside telephone booths. Growth toward state-of-the-art communications had begun in Union Springs.
Today, Union Springs Telephone Company is a diversified operation providing telephone, high speed internet and cable television-all delivered to the home over fiber optic cable—one of the first independents in the nation to do so.
No one can guess what the next fifty years hold for communications. But, whatever it
may be, know that Union Springs Telephone is dedicated to it, and promises that every
customer will share in the best that technology has to offer.
